First week: 1 v 2, 3 v 8, 4 v 7, 5 v 6, 2 v 4

Rules for Doubles

1) Tournament will be run in round robin fashion. The top 4 teams will go to semi finals. Semi finals will be best of 5 sets. Semi final lineup will be 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3.

2) There will be playoff for 3rd position. The playoff match will be best of 3 sets.

3) New balls (Penn) should be used for every match. If the match goes to 3rd set, then a new can should be opened at the beginning of 3rd set.

4) During round robin rounds, 4 points will be awarded for each win. A loss in 3 sets will get the losing team 1 point and a loss in straight sets will be 0 point.

5) Referee for every match: Every match will have one or more designated referees.

6) Matches have to be completed on the same day. Teams should allow themselves enough time to finish the match on the same day. Matches can be stopped and started only if there is rain or court invasion of league teams. If for some reason a team doesn't want to complete the match, then it is deemed that they forfeited the match.

7) If both teams agree to have umpires for the match and a player makes a wrong call, then it should be an automatic point to other team.

New Penalty Rules
 

8) Umpire abuse penalty: Point penalty will be given for those who shout at the umpires or abuse them. Remember: Umpires, after all, are human beings doing a tough job :-).

9) Ball throwing penalty: Penalty for throwing balls out of the court: Throw a ball out and your opponents score will advance by a game.

Scenario 1: Suppose the score if 3 games all and 15-30 with team A at 15 points. Team B player throws the ball out of court. The score will move to 4-3 game and 15-30 points in team A's favor.

Scenario 2: If the score is 5-3 games and 30-0 points and team B player throws the ball. The set will be awarded to team A  at 6-3. The additional 30 point will be carried forward for the next set, i.e., the next set begins with 30-0 points in favor of team A.

10) Match postponement penalty: A match scheduled for a weekend should be completed on that weekend itself. Otherwise one point will be deducted from the team that pushed the schedule. A point will not be deducted if a match scheduled for Saturday is played on Sunday of the same weekend or vice versa.

This will be a 9 week tournament with the round robin matches getting  completed in 6 weeks. The matches should be played even if it is windy. Postponement can happen only because of rain. The team that asks for postponement first is the team that gets penalized. Postponement means postponing the match to some other weekend. Any match that gets postponed has to be played on a day when both these teams do not have a match. It should not result in rescheduling of another match. The postponed match should be played within the 6 week window. If the teams do not complete the match within the 6 week window, the team that asked for postponement will get a point deducted (-1) from their total. The other team will get 1 point.

Scenario 1: Team A requests postponement to next week. Team A will lose a point -- if they win the postponed match, they will get 3 points; if they lose in 3 sets, they will get 0 point; if they lose in straight sets, they will get -1.

11) Late start penalty: Every match should aim to start by 7:00am. Both teams should be at the court by 6:30am and do the necessary warm-ups, etc. In case a team shows up after 7:30am, it is deemed that they have asked for postponement and they will lose a point as per the "match postponement" penalty rule (See rule 10). Jessy's team is given an additional 15 mins and they should not show up any later than 7:45am. This penalty rule applies even if the match gets postponed on a Saturday and gets completed on Sunday of the same weekend.

Scenario: Team A is at the court at 6:30am. One player from Team B arrives at 7am. Team Bs other player does not come by 7:30am. Team B will suffer match postponement penalty (rule 10). Team A can then choose to play Team B on the same day if they want to when the other Team B player shows up. If Team B wins the match, they will get 3 point, if they lose in 3 sets, they will get 0 point and if they lose in straight sets, they will get -1 point as per the match postponement penalty rule.

12) Rain/non-availability of  courts: Because the schedule does not have any buffer, the schedule will not be adjusted to accommodate non-availability of courts or postponements due to bad weather. If a match cannot happen, then it is the responsibility of both the teams to attempt to complete the match before Oct 15th. If a court is not available, they would need to find alternate courts and play there. If they cannot complete the match before Oct15th, then both teams will be awarded one point.
